Ramos Arizpe Civil Protection Tackles Flood Risks and Fire Outbreaks

The municipal civil protection and fire department in Ramos Arizpe, Mexico, has been conducting continuous cleaning of storm‑water channels, bridges and vulnerable points to prevent blockages that could cause flooding during heavy rains. Crews cleared debris from the Flores Castro bridge and urged residents not to dump waste into waterways.

From January to July, the same department responded to 47 fire incidents in homes and temporary structures. Most fires were linked to electrical neglect in occupied houses and to intentional or negligent actions in abandoned buildings and tejabanes, where accumulated flammable material heightened risk. Director Francisco Sánchez Aguirre highlighted the financial burden of firefighting operations, including fuel, salaries, equipment wear and replacement costs.
