Rampal Thermal Power Plant achieves record electricity production
The Rampal coal-fired thermal power plant in Bagerhat has achieved a new milestone in electricity production. For the first time, both units of the facility are operating continuously to supply the national grid.
According to Anwarul Azim, the plant's Chief Human Resources Officer, the two units produced 656 MW and 665 MW respectively, totaling 1,321 MW. This follows a period where production had been temporarily halted due to mechanical issues.
The Rampal plant is a joint venture between the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) and India's National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), operating under the Bangladesh-India Friendship Power Company Limited (BIFPCL). The project, known as the Maitree Super Thermal Power Project, has a total capacity of 1,320 MW.
