Bangladesh electricity supply and Rampal plant operations
Overview
The electricity supply to the Bangladesh national grid has seen fluctuations involving major coal-fired power sources. In mid-September, technical faults at Adani Power in India were resolved, increasing its supply to approximately 1,046 MW. However, this was countered by a technical failure at the Rampal coal-fired plant in Bagerhat, where one unit shut down for maintenance, reducing its output from over 1,100 MW to below 600 MW.
By early October, the Rampal plant, a joint venture between the Bangladesh Power Development Board and India’s NTPC, reached a production milestone. Both units of the facility operated continuously to supply the grid, producing a combined total of 1,321 MW.
