Ranabaali period drama receives mixed reviews upon release

The Telugu period action drama Ranabaali, starring Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna, was released on 16 October 2026. Directed by Rahul Sankrityan, the film is set during the 1870s famine in the Madras Presidency and follows a warrior rising against British colonial oppression.

Audience and critic reactions have been divided. While the lead actors' chemistry and Deverakonda’s intense performance have earned significant praise, many viewers criticized the film’s pacing, repetitive sequences, and background score. Some noted the film's depiction of British atrocities as a strength, while others found the violence excessive.

At a press conference in Hyderabad, Deverakonda expressed confidence that the film would be a major success and a proud moment for Tollywood. Rashmika Mandanna also lauded her husband’s performance, comparing his character transformation to Allu Arjun’s role in Pushpa 2.

Box office reports indicate a moderate opening, with the film collecting approximately ₹7.76 crore on its first day, primarily from Telugu-speaking regions. Industry experts suggest the film's long-term success will depend on word-of-mouth and performance during upcoming holidays.
