Ranabaali release and box office performance

Overview

Mythri Movie Makers released the period action drama ‘Ranabaali’, directed by Rahul Sankrityan, on October 16, 2026. Set in 19th-century South India during the Great Madras Famine, the film stars Vijay Deverakonda as the warrior Singanamala Bobbili Ranabaali and Rashmika Mandanna as his wife, Jayamma. The production features international actor Arnold Vosloo as the antagonist, Sir Theodore Hector, with music by Ajay-Atul.

Leading up to the release, the film generated significant buzz through the release of its trailer and the song ‘Kobali’. The production faced social media scrutiny, with Deverakonda and Mandanna addressing what they described as “manufactured” hate and trolling regarding Mandanna’s personality. The film was cleared by the CBFC with a U/A certificate.

Initial reception has been mixed. While critics and audiences have praised the chemistry between the lead actors and Deverakonda’s intense performance, others have criticized the film’s slow pacing, repetitive sequences, and background score. Some viewers noted the depiction of British atrocities as a strength, while others found the violence excessive.

On its opening day, ‘Ranabaali’ earned approximately ₹7.76 crore. By its sixth day, the worldwide gross reached ₹59.65 crore. As of October 26, the film has reached a worldwide gross of approximately ₹75.25 crore. However, the film has seen a decline in momentum; by its second week, daily collections and theater occupancy rates showed significant drops. Additionally, the film’s team filed a complaint with the Hyderabad Cyber Crime police regarding social media posts allegedly spreading false information.
