Rangers International advances to CAF Champions League second round

Rangers International has advanced to the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League following a penalty shootout victory against Benin Republic’s AS Sobemap. After a 1-1 draw in the first leg in Abeokuta, the two sides played to another 1-1 draw during the second leg in Lomé, Togo.

The aggregate score of 2-2 forced the match into penalties, where Rangers secured a 5-4 win. Despite missing their initial kick, the Nigerian champions maintained composure to overcome the hosts.

Fidelis Ilechukwu’s side will now await the winner of the tie between Algeria’s MC Alger and Niger’s ASN Nigelec to determine their next opponent in the competition.
