Nigerian clubs see mixed results in CAF continental openers
Nigerian football clubs experienced varying results in their opening CAF continental fixtures. In the CAF Champions League, league champions Rangers International played to a 1-1 draw against Benin Republic’s AS Sobemap at the Moshood Abiola Sports Complex in Abeokuta. Despite an early goal from Iwundu Chidozie in the 23rd minute, Rangers were unable to maintain their lead after an equalizer from the visitors, leaving the tie balanced ahead of the second leg.
In the CAF Confederation Cup, El-Kanemi Warriors secured a dominant 3-0 victory over Guinea-Bissau’s UDIB at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne. Nnamdi Mejuobi scored twice, including a penalty, before Dayo Wahab added a third in the 88th minute. This commanding lead provides the Warriors with a significant advantage heading into the return leg scheduled for September 13.
Additionally, Shooting Stars secured a 1-0 win over Tunisian side CS Sfaxien in the CAF Confederation Cup, with Emmanuel Lucky scoring the decisive goal.
