Rangers manager search intensifies as Danny Rohl departs and Steven Gerrard is linked

Danny Rohl is expected to leave Rangers for Red Bull Salzburg, leaving the club without a sporting director and reopening the managerial vacancy. Derek McInnes is now favoured to remain as head coach, while former captain Steven Gerrard continues to be mentioned as a possible replacement. Gerrard has also been reported as a candidate for the Burnley job after the club’s relegation from the Premier League.

Former Rangers forward Greg Stewart said the club could benefit from either McInnes or Gerrard, noting that chief executive Jim Gillespie favours McInnes but that Gerrard’s earlier success at Ibrox gives supporters hope. Gerrard is reportedly assembling his back‑room staff, with Manchester United assistant Steve Holland identified as his first‑choice deputy, though convincing him to leave Old Trafford may be difficult. The managerial uncertainty comes as Rangers prepare for pre‑season, with the squad due back soon and transfer plans on hold.
