Rapid Bucharest faces transfer funding freeze as owner pledges no spending this summer

Club owner Dan Şucu announced that he will not inject any personal funds into Rapid București’s transfer budget for the 2026 summer window, marking the first season since his 2022 takeover without direct spending. The club will rely on player sales to raise money, counting on the €7.5 million move of Albion Rrahmani to Venezia, which delivers roughly €360 000 to Rapid’s accounts, and hoping for a €300 000 fee from the prospective sale of defender Denis Ciobotariu.

Returning from a pre‑season camp in Austria, Rapid will open the Liga I season on 20 July against Sepsi. Minority shareholder Victor Angelescu praised 22‑year‑old midfielder Omar El Sawy for finishing among the top two in camp tests and highlighted his four goals, while confirming that Rapid will not pursue the previously discussed transfer of Genoa striker Debenedetti. The club continues to scout for a new forward and plans to complete its squad through low‑cost signings, loans, and free‑agent deals.
