Rapid ultras boycott UEFAntasticii 20‑year reunion match in Bucharest

A commemorative match titled “UEFAntasticii 20 de ani” is set for 28 May at Bucharest’s Arcul de Triumf stadium. The event will re‑enact the 2005/06 UEFA Cup quarter‑final between Rapid and Steaua (now FCSB) and includes a retirement ceremony for former player Florin Lovin.

Rapid’s main supporters group, Peluza Nord, issued an official statement saying it will not attend. The ultras claim the event does not represent the authentic spirit of Rapid, criticize its focus on “image”, and denounce Lovin’s involvement, recalling the 2008 “brichetă” incident that halted a derby between the clubs. The boycott is expected to reduce attendance, though the match is still scheduled to proceed.
