Raquel Lyra launches investigation into defamatory posters in Recife

Pernambuco Governor Raquel Lyra has launched investigations with both the Federal and Civil Police following the discovery of anonymous posters in Recife. The posters contain defamatory claims, including a false accusation that Lyra was responsible for the death of her husband, businessman Fernando Lucena, who died of a heart attack in October 2022.

One poster falsely suggests Lyra killed her husband to win the 2022 election, while another compares her to convicted murderers. Lyra has condemned the attacks as “cruel and absolutely inhumane” political violence. Her campaign has also requested an investigation by the Electoral Public Ministry.

Political opponent João Campos has repudiated the posters, denying any connection to their distribution and calling for the identification of those responsible. Meanwhile, Lyra has continued her campaign activities, highlighting R$ 26 billion in public works investments and social housing programs like Morar Bem Pernambuco.
