Rare 1968 Shelby GT500KR Mustang and 1963 Corvette Grand Sport slated for auction

A 1968 Shelby GT500KR Mustang, a barn‑find that remained in the same family for decades, is being offered at auction. Only 182 of the 518 produced cabriolet examples were painted in the original Wimbledon White, and the car retains its 428 cu in (7.0 L) Cobra Jet V8, original cloth roof and documentation, though it shows corrosion and will need body work.

One of only five 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport race cars is also set for sale at an RM Sotheby’s auction in Monterey, California, in mid‑August. Developed by General Motors under engineer Zora Arkus‑Duntov to counter Shelby Cobras, the lightweight, fiberglass‑bodied Grand Sport featured a 6.2‑L aluminum V8 producing about 550 hp and a chassis weighing roughly 862 kg. The car has a distinguished racing record, including a win in the SCCA championship and a second‑place finish at the 1964 12‑Hour Sebring race. It is expected to fetch around $13 million.
