Rare Tornado Threats Loom Over Croatia’s Adriatic Coast

Meteorologists warn that, although uncommon, tornadoes could develop over Croatia’s Adriatic coastline during the summer tourism season. The risk peaks between May and August, especially in June and July, when a hot air mass followed by cooler air creates an unstable atmosphere conducive to rotating thunderstorms. While tornadoes normally stay offshore, they can reach popular beach areas, posing serious danger to tourists and vessels at sea and potentially causing significant property damage.

Forecasts cannot predict tornado formation days in advance, but satellite and radar data can highlight heightened risk periods. Authorities advise visitors to monitor weather updates and follow any official warnings to stay safe.
