Carinthia police identify suspect in fatal hit-and-run
Police in Carinthia have identified a suspect in a fatal hit-and-run accident that occurred in Traundorf on August 9. The incident, which took place near 4:30 AM following a local fire department festival, resulted in the death of a 20-year-old pedestrian.
A pensioner from the Völkermarkt district initially denied involvement but later confessed to running over a lifeless body while driving a Mercedes Sprinter belonging to a volunteer fire department. The driver stated he fled the scene in a state of shock but later returned to assist with securing the accident site.
Investigators from the State Criminal Police Office discovered human tissue on the undercarriage of the fire department vehicle, which they described as being found “with a very high degree of certainty.” Authorities are continuing to investigate whether a second vehicle was involved in the collision.
