Ratinho faces police inquiry for alleged homophobic remarks on SBT

The Public Ministry of São Paulo has requested the opening of a police inquiry against television presenter Ratinho following allegations of homophobic speech. The request was sent to the Osasco Sectional Police Department following a complaint by LGBTQIA+ activist and substitute state deputy Agripino Magalhães (PSOL-SP).

The incident occurred during an episode of ‘Programa do Ratinho’ on SBT in early August. While discussing the new look of singer Tiago Piquilo, from the duo Hugo & Tiago, Ratinho remarked, ‘You dyed your hair? My God… You look like a faggot’.

Ratinho has defended his comments, stating they were intended as a joke and asserting that he has never disrespected anyone in his 28-year career. Magalhães countered that such language is not a joke, but rather constitutes prejudice, public embarrassment, and symbolic violence against the LGBTQIAPN+ community.

Daniela Abravanel Beyruti, president of SBT, also defended the presenter, noting he belongs to a different generation and emphasizing that the network remains a welcoming space for all. This marks the fourth complaint filed by Magalhães against Ratinho regarding statements directed at the LGBTQIA+ community.
