Rayalaseema Global Horticulture Hub foundation laid in Andhra Pradesh

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman laid the foundation stone for the Global Horticulture Hub and the Indian School of Agriculture in Madanapalle, Annamayya district. The project, estimated at Rs 1 lakh crore, aims to transform the drought-prone Rayalaseema region into a major global fruit-producing center.

The initiative will be implemented in three phases between August 2026 and July 2029. Funding includes Rs 40,352 crore from the Central government and a target of Rs 60,000 crore in private sector investments. The project covers 201 clusters across 10 districts, involving 5,869 villages. It seeks to expand horticulture cultivation by 6 lakh hectares and increase production from 222 lakh tonnes to 435 lakh tonnes, benefiting approximately 9.6 lakh farmers.

During the ceremony, which was attended by Reliance Industries’ executive director Anant Ambani, local protesters disrupted the event. Farmers and youth voiced concerns regarding unemployment and demanded more local job opportunities. Additionally, YSRCP leader YS Jagan Mohan Reddy criticized the project, labeling the investment claims as ‘theatrics’ and alleging a lack of actual budget allocation.
