Raízen sells Argentine downstream assets to Mercuria for $1.42 bn

Raízen announced on Thursday, 4 May, the sale of its downstream fuel operations in Argentina to companies controlled by Mercuria Energy Group. The transaction, valued at US$1.42 billion (about R$7.2 billion), includes assets and stakes in refining, distribution and retail facilities, and transfers the debtor of Raízen Argentina to the buyer. The deal was signed with Latam Downstream Holdings Ltd. and Silver Projects I.S.A.U., subsidiaries of the Swiss‑based Mercuria, and is expected to close within the current fiscal year subject to regulatory and judicial approvals. Proceeds will be used to strengthen Raízen’s capital structure as part of a broader strategy to simplify its portfolio and focus on bio‑energy and higher‑margin businesses. Mercuria, one of the world’s largest independent energy traders active in over 50 countries, will take control of the Argentine downstream chain, a move that could reshape local fuel market dynamics.
