RBI to mandate daily interest rate updates for Bulk Fixed Deposits

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is implementing new regulations regarding Fixed Deposits (FD) to increase transparency, specifically targeting Bulk FDs. Starting October 1, 2026, banks will be required to update their interest rates for Bulk FDs—typically deposits of ₹3 crore or more—on their websites every working day by 10:00 AM. This rule aims to prevent banks from offering arbitrary different rates across various branches for the same amount and tenure, ensuring customers receive the rates published online.

In related market activity, several small finance banks have recently adjusted their interest rates for standard FDs (under ₹3 crore). Suryoday Small Finance Bank offers rates between 4% and 8.25%, while Jana Small Finance Bank provides between 3.50% and 8%. Shivalik Small Finance Bank and AU Small Finance Bank have also updated their offerings, with AU Small Finance Bank providing up to 50 basis points of additional interest for senior citizens.
