RC Vannes sets record budget for Top 14 return

RC Vannes is preparing for its return to the Top 14 rugby championship with a record-breaking budget for a promoted club. To avoid immediate relegation, the Breton club has set a provisional budget between 26 and 27 million euros, representing an increase of 7 to 8 million euros over the previous year. This includes a 2 million euro increase for the wage bill.

This financial strategy aims to overcome the historical difficulty faced by promoted teams. Since the creation of the Top 14 in 2005, fewer than half of promoted clubs—16 out of 33—have managed to maintain their position in the elite division. In the last ten seasons, excluding those disrupted by Covid-19, the success rate for promoted clubs has been approximately 37.5%.

While recent promoted teams have struggled, clubs like La Rochelle, Bayonne, and Perpignan have successfully secured their place in the top flight after initial setbacks. RC Vannes seeks to follow these examples by utilizing its unprecedented budget to ensure long-term stability in the league.
