RCMP issues 'duty to warn' notices to Sikh activists in Canada FAST-MOVING

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) has issued 'duty to warn' notices to several Sikh activists in Canada, citing credible, serious, and imminent threats to their lives. The warnings were issued to Inderjeet Singh Gosal of Caledon, Ontario; Manjinder Singh of Abbotsford, British Columbia; and Narinder Singh Randhawa of Surrey, British Columbia.

The activists are involved in campaigns advocating for the creation of an independent Sikh state, known as Khalistan. The RCMP noted that while there is no direct threat to the activists' families or friends, those individuals could be harmed during an attempt on the activists' lives. Police also advised the men to avoid locations frequented by individuals engaged in criminal activity to reduce their risk.

Inderjeet Singh Gosal, a coordinator for the Khalistan referendum movement, declined an offer from police to enter the witness protection program, stating his commitment to the cause. The security concerns follow the June 2023 killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a prominent supporter of the movement, which authorities linked to organized crime groups operating out of India.
