RCMP probes Shuswap park disturbance and string of suspicious fires
Police responded to a disturbance at Shuswap Lake Provincial Park in Scotch Creek on the night of July 17, when a group celebrating a 50th birthday refused to leave the day‑use area after it closed. Const. Sarah Van Wilgenburg said the group complied and left, but the following morning a campsite reported mischief and theft, including damage to a tent and a stolen bucket‑golf game valued at about $200. The RCMP investigation remains ongoing.
In early April, residents and firefighters in North Shuswap discovered three small brush fires along Squilax Anglemont Road, later joined by two additional fires in the Anglemont Estates area. All five fires, spaced roughly 100 metres apart, were deemed suspicious. The RCMP is investigating the incidents; no arrests have been made, though officers have spoken with several identified suspects. Community members assisted firefighters in extinguishing the flames.
