RCMP investigations of suspicious Canadian fires

Overview

In late July, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police announced that leads had dried up in the probe of the August 2022 Conception Bay North Shore wildfires in Newfoundland and Labrador, while still urging anyone with information to contact Harbour Grace RCMP. The same announcement included a request for witnesses to a suspicious fire that ignited two large trees in Bowen Park, Nanaimo, where officers noted a strong chemical odor.

A week later, RCMP detailed further investigations in British Columbia. Police responded to a disturbance at Shuswap Lake Provincial Park after a birthday party refused to leave the day‑use area, and the following morning reported mischief and theft at a nearby campsite. Simultaneously, firefighters and residents in North Shuswap discovered a series of five small brush fires spaced about 100 metres apart, all deemed suspicious. RCMP investigators have spoken with several identified suspects but have made no arrests.

Both reports show the RCMP’s ongoing effort to investigate multiple, unrelated suspicious fire incidents across Canada, repeatedly calling on the public for information to aid the inquiries.
