Re-Use Austria launches national repair café platform and expands collection boxes
Re-Use Austria introduced a new website, repaircafes.at, that aggregates the locations, dates and contact details of repair cafés across Austria. The platform, supported by Helvetia, the BMLUK and the waste‑avoidance funding scheme, allows organisers to upload their events themselves. More than 100 repair‑café initiatives are now listed, serving around 1,600 volunteers who conduct roughly 15,000 repair attempts each year, with a 67 % success rate. According to Re‑Use Austria, the activity prevents about 108 tonnes of waste and saves roughly 2 500 tonnes of CO₂ annually.
The municipal association’s Re‑Use‑Box programme, launched in spring 2025, has distributed over 20 000 collection boxes and bags to Austrian municipalities, with about 10 000 handed directly to citizens. The scheme has quadrupled the amount of material collected, reaching 30 000 kg in 2025, and is now available in almost every municipality, helping to raise reuse rates for household items, electronics and toys.
