Reading clubs launch in Werne and Freinsheim with workshops and literary games

The Stadtbücherei Werne opened its annual Summer Reading Club on 9 July, inviting individuals and teams of up to five people of any age to read, listen to audiobooks and take part in creative challenges. Participants earn stamps in a reading log and can submit entries until 4 September. The programme includes an anime‑drawing course, a hip‑hop workshop, a scavenger‑hunt, a sound‑bowl meditation session and various craft activities. The club concludes with a ceremony on 12 September where "Lese‑Oscars" are awarded. Funding comes from the North‑Rhine‑Westphalia Ministry of Culture and Science, the local football club Sim‑Jü, the Lions‑Förderverein and the Volksbank Kamen‑Werne.

In Freinsheim, the Freinsheimer Nachlese literary event organized by poet Hasan Özdemir and a team that has run since 2010 featured a spontaneous writing game, children’s storytelling activities and performances by a poet and a tango duo. Because of bad weather the event moved from the Retzer Park to the Von‑Busch‑Hof. The programme also highlighted winners of a local writing competition and included a short theatre piece under the theme "Something with Longing".
