Reading Emerges as Top Relaxation Activity in Global Survey
A two‑year multidisciplinary study involving 18,000 participants from 135 countries, coordinated by Durham University researchers including psychologist Claudia Hamond, found that reading is the most relaxing activity people choose. Socialising with friends and family ranked only twelfth, while solitary pursuits such as gardening and pet care did not make the top five. The research highlights a shift toward solitary, low‑screen pastimes for rest.
Separately, a travel trend dubbed “coolcation” is gaining popularity, especially among Serbian tourists. It promotes vacations in cooler climates—mountains, lakes, forests, and northern European cities—rather than traditional hot‑beach destinations. Popular spots include the Dolomites in Italy, offering alpine trails, lakes, and affordable lodging options, as well as other Alpine regions reachable by car from Serbia. The concept aims to provide comfortable outdoor experiences amid rising summer heat waves.
