Koblenz and Bayreuth host summer reading festivals for children

The City Library of Koblenz continues its Lesesommer and Vorlese‑Sommer reading programmes through 15 August 2026, targeting children aged 6‑16. Almost 1,000 participants have already signed up, with new registrations still open. Children who read or listen to three books and submit a drawing receive a certificate and entry into a nationwide prize draw. Final award ceremonies are scheduled for 8 September (Lesesommer) and 29 September (Vorlese‑Sommer).

In Bayreuth, the annual "Bayreuth blättert" reading festival will take place on 1 August 2026 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The free, outdoor event, themed "Provinz," celebrates the city’s 60‑year partnership with Annecy and the 150‑year anniversary of the Bayreuth Festival. Highlights include journalist Hasnain Kazim reading from his book, a sign‑language‑interpreted conversation, and a range of children’s activities such as comics workshops and inclusive games.
