France vs Spain World Cup semi‑final draws massive security deployment in France

The World Cup semi‑final between France and Spain will be played on 14 July 2026 at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. France coach Didier Deschamps said Spain are the favourites, while Spanish coach Luis de la Fuente expects a “big day” for 19‑year‑old winger Lamine Yamal, who repeated that he has no fear of the French side. French midfielder Adrien Rabiot and forward Warren Zaïre‑Emery both downplayed any pre‑match controversy, stressing that the game will be decided on the pitch.

On the same day France will celebrate its national holiday, Bastille Day. Interior Minister Laurent Núñez announced an unprecedented security operation, deploying around 70 000 police and gendarmes nationwide, including 5 000 on the Champs‑Élysées for the military parade and thousands in Paris and the regions to guard the festivities and the evening match. The deployment follows earlier mobilisations for earlier World Cup knockout rounds and a recent tragic accident in the Nord department that heightened safety concerns. The French authorities warned there will be “no tolerance for disturbances” as the semi‑final and the national celebrations coincide.

Both camps entered the match with strong offensive records – France with Kylian Mbappé and Ousmane Dembélé, Spain with a solid defence led by Unai Simón – and the winner will face Argentina or England in the final.
