Rebbe Maharash: Commemoration of the fourth Chabad-Lubavitch leader

The 144th yahrzeit of the Rebbe Maharash, the fourth Rebbe of Chabad-Lubavitch, was observed on the 13th of Tishrei. Born in Lubavitch in 1834 to the Tzemach Tzedek and Rebbetzin Chaya Mushka, he was noted for his early proficiency in Talmudic studies.

As a leader, the Rebbe Maharash was known for his communal activism and his role in addressing government discussions regarding Jewish education. He is historically credited as the first Rebbe to utilize the hemshech, a method of delivering a series of connected maamorim that progressively clarify a single concept until it is fully explained.
