Taxpayers are encouraged to self-regularize by checking for discrepancies via the 'Meu Imposto de Renda' platform, available on the official website or mobile applications. Access requires a 'gov.br' account with silver or gold security levels. Correcting errors through a rectifying declaration before official summons can help avoid fines and prevent delays in receiving tax refunds.

Common reasons for tax retention include the omission of occasional income, failure to declare income received by dependents, not reporting all retirement benefits from multiple sources, and incorrect reporting of medical expenses.
