Recidivist wielding homemade sword detained after frightening residents of Zářeč, Czech Republic
Shortly before 8 a.m. in the Zářeč area of the Czech Republic, a man born in 1969 who had been released from prison a few days earlier was observed moving across private yards with a homemade sword and an axe. He attempted to enter several family homes, but residents barred him and one called the emergency line 158. A witness said the suspect claimed he was seeing “elephants, giraffes and various bubáky” that wanted to kill him.
Police patrol units arrived quickly, detained the man, and an on‑site drug test indicated he was under the influence of psychoactive substances. He will be processed in a shortened criminal proceeding and has been charged with violating home freedom and damaging property. A court hearing is scheduled for Friday to determine further custody.
