Armed individual threats in Central Europe

Overview

In late July 2026, a man in the Zářeč area of the Czech Republic, who had recently been released from prison, was detained after attempting to enter private homes while armed with a homemade sword and an axe. The suspect, who reportedly claimed to see “elephants, giraffes and various bubáky,” tested positive for psychoactive substances during police processing.

In late August 2026, a separate incident occurred in the Ružinov district of Bratislava, Slovakia, where a man was detained for allegedly threatening neighbors with an axe. The individual, who reportedly has a history of mental health issues and previous police involvement for brandishing a firearm-like object, appeared to be under the influence of alcohol during the confrontation.
