Recife hosts 29th International Dance Festival

The 29th edition of the Recife International Dance Festival begins this Thursday and runs until September 13. Organized by the Recife City Hall, the event features over 30 free activities across various urban spaces, including theaters, markets, and streets.

This year’s theme, ‘Corpo/Escola – Formação que Move’, focuses on artist training and accessibility. The program includes local Pernambuco artists, performers from other Brazilian states, and international groups, such as the Spanish troupe Iron Skulls Co., making their Latin American debut.

Highlights include the opening performance ‘Nosso Baile’ by choreographer Henrique Rodovalho and a performance-intervention titled ‘Coragem Encarnada’ by Grupo Totem at Marco Zero. The latter explores indigenous symbolism and territorial struggle. All festival activities are free to the public, with organizers requesting food donations as a form of solidarity.
