Cultural and dance events in Recife
Overview
Recife is hosting various cultural and dance-related events. The “Trilhas da Pelve” itinerant workshop cycle, coordinated by Vivian Marvel, is opening registrations for pelvic dance classes held across six COMPAZ community center units from September 5 to October 11.
In addition to these workshops, the city is hosting a Jazz Dance workshop led by Lucas Maia at the Centro de Artes Grupo Vida in late August. Further cultural programming includes a performance by DJ Vintage Culture scheduled for November 6 at Classic Hall.
The 29th Recife International Dance Festival, themed ‘Corpo/Escola – Formação que Move’, is currently underway, running from September 3 to 13. Organized by the Recife City Hall, the festival features over 30 free activities across theaters, markets, and streets. The event honors the Escola de Frevo and dancer Airton Tenório, while also serving a social purpose by collecting food donations. Program highlights include the Latin American premiere of the Spanish group Iron Skulls Co., works by Quasar, and the opening performance ‘Nosso Baile’ by choreographer Henrique Rodovalho. Additionally, Grupo Totem is scheduled for a performance-intervention titled ‘Coragem Encarnada’ at Marco Zero, which explores indigenous symbolism and territorial struggle.
Simultaneously, the ‘Viva Recife’ festival began on September 2 at the Copacabana beachfront in Rio de Janeiro. This initiative aims to promote Pernambucan culture and tourism through gastronomy, music, and traditional dances such as frevo, maracatu, and coco, offering sensory experiences and interactive installations to residents and tourists.
