Recife promotes culture through international dance and tourism festivals

The city of Recife is launching two major cultural initiatives in September to promote its heritage and tourism. The 29th Recife International Dance Festival will run from September 3 to 13, featuring over 30 free activities across various city locations, including theaters, markets, and streets. The festival, themed ‘Corpo/Escola – Formação que Move’, honors the Escola de Frevo and dancer Airton Tenório. Highlights include the Latin American premiere of a performance by the Spanish group Iron Skulls, alongside works by Quasar and Henrique Rodovalho. The event also serves a social purpose by collecting food donations.

Simultaneously, the ‘Viva Recife’ festival will bring Pernambucan culture to Rio de Janeiro. Starting September 2, the initiative will occupy the Copacabana beachfront at Avenida Atlântica. The festival aims to stimulate tourism by offering visitors sensory experiences through gastronomy, music, and traditional dances such as frevo, maracatu, and coco. The program includes musical performances, workshops, and interactive installations designed to showcase the diverse identity of Recife to tourists and residents in Rio.
