Record Heat Forces Postponement of Haarlem Honkbalweek Opening Game

The 32nd Honkbalweek Haarlem baseball tournament, scheduled for 26 June – 4 July 2026 at Pim Mulierstadion, features teams including the Netherlands, Chinese Taipei, Italy, Curaçao, the Czech Republic and the International Globetrotters. The opening match between Italy and the Czech Republic was postponed after the Dutch meteorological service issued a unprecedented Code Red heat warning, with temperatures expected to reach 40 °C. Mayor Jos Wienen cancelled the 3 p.m. game, moving it to 30 June at 11:30 a.m., while the evening game between the Netherlands and the Globetrotters proceeded as planned.

The heat alert prompted nationwide measures: schools were closed, the national rail service reduced operations, and highways advised motorists to stay off the roads.
