Record participation in Germany's Stadtradeln bike‑commuting campaign

The 2026 edition of Stadtradeln, an international cycling promotion run by the Klimabündnis, saw record involvement in two German regions. In the Nürnberger Land district, 2,066 people formed 95 teams, logging 385,000 kilometres and avoiding roughly 63 tonnes of CO₂. County officials highlighted the achievement, noting “Eine Steigerung ist natürlich immer gut; die 2000er‑Marke überschritten zu haben, freut mich sehr,” said cycling officer Verena Loibl.

In the city of Kaiserslautern, 1,333 cyclists in 96 teams covered 271,697 kilometres across 21,954 rides. Deputy mayor Manuel Steinbrenner reached the campaign’s 750‑kilometre target, commenting “Es war definitiv eine Herausforderung, aber es hat sich gelohnt.” The new bike street launched for the event received strong community support, and the city plans further expansion of cycling infrastructure.

Both locales used the Stadtradeln app for route tracking and feedback, with dozens of minor issues resolved during the campaign.
