Recreo, Argentina Sets Flood Plan as El Niño Threatens Livestock

The municipality of Recreo in Argentina has prepared a flood contingency plan to respond to possible heavy rains linked to an upcoming El Niño event. The plan outlines preventive actions such as regular cleaning of channels, maintenance of drainage systems, monitoring of pumping stations, and the activation of an integrated operations centre when forecasts predict intense precipitation exceeding 100 mm.

At the same time, the National Service of Health and Quality of Agrofood (SENASA) and the National Institute of Agricultural Technology (INTA) have issued guidance for livestock producers, especially in Corrientes and Misiones, to prepare for flood‑related risks. Recommendations include evacuation planning for farms, protecting pastures, and managing sanitary hazards that could arise from water‑logged fields.
