Red Bull backs 2027 F1 rule changes and supports moves for greater team independence
Red Bull Racing technical director Laurent Mekies said the team and its power‑unit partner are ready to leave their “comfort zone” and back the FIA’s proposed 60:40 fuel‑flow split for the 2027 Formula 1 regulations. He stressed, “We support any step that the sport wants to make… to get closer to flat‑out qualifying and racing.” The plan would increase fuel flow and may shorten selected races to accommodate chassis constraints.
At the same time, McLaren chief Zak Brown has raised concerns with the FIA about the independence of teams, citing the dual ownership of Red Bull Racing and its sister team. Mekies responded that Red Bull would “support any further moves” to ensure all eleven constructors race independently, emphasizing a “customer‑supplier” relationship with its junior team and a willingness to back additional safeguards.
Both teams highlighted ongoing discussions with the FIA and other stakeholders to reach consensus on the technical and governance changes before the next season.
