Jürgen Klopp poised to become Germany coach as DFB navigates Red Bull contract

Germany’s early exit from the 2026 World Cup prompted Julian Nagelsmann to resign as national‑team manager. The German Football Association (DFB) has identified Jürgen Klopp as its preferred successor. DFB president Bernd Neuendorf and vice‑president Hans‑Joachim Watzke are preparing talks in New York with Klopp, his adviser Marc Kosicke and Red Bull executives to resolve Klopp’s existing contract as Head of Global Soccer, which runs to 2029. Watzke said the deal is “definitely not settled yet” and warned a “Patriotism‑discount” may be required. Klopp, speaking from a New York rooftop, affirmed his readiness: “I’m more than refueled, so I’m ready.” Discussions also cover the future role of sport‑director Rudi Völler, with both Klopp and Watzke indicating a willingness to work together. While transfer‑expert Fabrizio Romano has hinted that an agreement is imminent, the DFB stresses that financial terms and contract termination with Red Bull remain the main hurdles before any official appointment can be confirmed.
