Red Bull drivers urge focus on 2027 development

Red Bull Racing drivers Max Verstappen and Isack Hadjar are advocating for the team to prioritize long-term development over immediate race results to prepare for the 2027 season. Following a strong performance at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, where Verstappen and Hadjar finished second and third respectively, the team is facing internal discussions regarding team orders and driver dynamics.

Verstappen suggested that the remaining races of the current season should serve as a live testing program to identify structural weaknesses in the RB22. Hadjar echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the need to learn from mistakes now to ensure the 2027 car is competitive.

Team principal Laurent Mekies noted that while the Baku performance was outstanding, the team may face “difficult decisions” regarding team orders in the future. As the circuit moves to Sepang, Mekies cautioned against over-excitement, citing challenges such as extreme heat and tire degradation.
