Red Bull-Ford leads FIA engine benchmarks despite Mercedes track dominance

The FIA’s second ADUO evaluation period has confirmed the Red Bull-Ford power unit as the benchmark for internal combustion engine (ICE) performance for the 2026 Formula 1 regulations. Despite this technical certification, a discrepancy exists between engine benchmarks and on-track results.

In the current season, Mercedes-powered cars have demonstrated significant dominance, leading 81.2% of the total racing laps (605 out of 745). Ferrari-powered cars have led 17.7% of the laps, leaving Red Bull-Ford with only 1.1% of the laps led.

Technical discussions continue regarding the FIA’s measurement methodology and the effectiveness of development tokens. While Red Bull-Ford holds the power advantage in testing, Mercedes remains the most competitive manufacturer on the track. Reliability issues have also been noted across several manufacturers, including retirements for both Red Bull and Mercedes drivers.
