Red Bull investigates Verstappen engine issues after Azerbaijan GP
Red Bull Racing is investigating technical issues involving Max Verstappen’s power unit following the Azerbaijan Grand Prix weekend. During qualifying in Baku, Verstappen experienced engine problems that hindered his performance, resulting in an eighth-place qualifying position before he secured second place in the race.
Team principal Laurent Mekies stated that the necessity of a grid penalty for the remainder of the season remains uncertain. The team is currently analyzing the damaged engine to determine if it can be reused. If the power unit is deemed unusable, Red Bull may be forced to introduce components beyond the permitted allocation, which would trigger a penalty. Mekies noted that the decision depends on whether the team can manage the rest of the season using their fourth available engine.
