Pierre Gasly regains Monaco podium after FIA overturns penalties

The FIA stewards reversed two five‑second penalties imposed on Alpine driver Pierre Gasly for alleged pit‑lane speed infringements at the Monaco Grand Prix. The review found a measurement error in the timing system, meaning the penalties should not have been applied. Gasly’s result was restored to third place, removing Isack Hadjar of Red Bull from the podium.

The decision also affected other drivers who served identical penalties. McLaren’s Oscar Piastri, who had finished fourth on track, was demoted to fifth, and Mercedes’ George Russell fell to 12th after a drive‑through penalty was upheld. Teams Red Bull, McLaren and Mercedes have announced they will consider appeals within the 96‑hour window provided by the regulations.

Gasly thanked the FIA for correcting the error, saying he “knows we were driving at 59 km/h, not over the limit,” and expressed pride in his team’s fight for the result. Piastri described the ruling as “mind‑blowing,” warning it could set a precedent for overturning penalties through legal challenges rather than on‑track resolutions.
