Red Bull Racing shows stability under Mekies and Verstappen
David Coulthard has observed “good chemistry” between Red Bull team principal Laurent Mekies and driver Max Verstappen as the team undergoes a significant rebuilding phase. This stability comes after a period of high-level departures within the organization.
Since 2024, Red Bull has seen several key figures exit, including former team principal Christian Horner, technical director Adrian Newey, sporting director Jonathan Wheatley, head of strategy Will Courtenay, chief designer Craig Skinner, and advisor Helmut Marko. Additionally, long-time race engineer Gianpiero Lambiase is set to join McLaren.
Mekies, who transitioned from sister team Racing Bulls following Horner’s dismissal in July 2025, brings experience from the FIA and Ferrari. Under his leadership, Verstappen narrowly missed the 2025 title by two points. To further stabilize the team, Mekies has agreed to a contract with Verstappen lasting until 2030, and the team has appointed Gwen Lagrue to lead its junior programme.
