Red Deer community launches fundraiser for senior after house fire

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to support a 70-year-old man in Red Deer, Alberta, following a severe house fire in the Kentwood neighbourhood on August 3. The fire, which began at the rear of the building and spread into the attic, was reported around 5:30 p.m. and was contained within 40 minutes. The resident was alerted by a neighbour and escaped safely.

The fundraising goal is $45,000 to assist with immediate needs, including temporary or future housing, clothing, personal necessities, and recovery costs. A structural engineer is scheduled to assess the property to determine if the home can be salvaged. In the interim, the resident is working with the Native Friendship Centre in Red Deer to apply for housing assistance.
