Red Deer house fire and resident displacement

Overview

On August 3, a house fire occurred in the Kentwood neighbourhood of Red Deer, Alberta. According to Assistant Deputy Chief Cole Starling of Red Deer Emergency Services, the blaze originated at the rear of the building and spread into the attic, resulting in extensive roof damage that rendered the single-family dwelling uninhabitable. The fire also caused damage to the siding of neighboring homes and displaced one resident.

Following the incident, the community launched a GoFundMe campaign with a $45,000 goal to support the 70-year-old resident. The funds are intended to cover immediate needs such as clothing, personal necessities, and temporary or future housing. While a structural engineer is scheduled to assess whether the property can be salvaged, the resident is working with the Native Friendship Centre in Red Deer to seek housing assistance.
