Red Deer house fire renders home uninhabitable, displaces resident

A house fire broke out on August 3 in the Kentwood neighbourhood of Red Deer, Alberta. Assistant Deputy Chief Cole Starling of Red Deer Emergency Services said the blaze started at the back of the building and spread into the attic, causing extensive roof damage that left the single‑family dwelling uninhabitable. The fire also damaged siding on adjacent homes and displaced one resident.

Calls were received around 5:30 p.m., and the first engine arrived within five minutes. Firefighters knocked the fire down in about 40 minutes, and by 6:30 p.m. additional trucks were released back to their stations. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Neighbours alerted the resident and offered assistance during and after the incident. Red Deer Emergency Services has responded to 5,479 medical or fire calls this year, including 1,737 fire‑related incidents.
