Red Flag Warnings Spur Fire‑Weather Alert Across the Western United States
Red Flag Warnings are in effect for much of the western United States as a combination of dry thunderstorms, hot temperatures and gusty outflow winds raises fire‑weather danger. The National Weather Service has warned of isolated dry lightning that could spark new wildfires in northern California, Nevada, Oregon, Idaho, Utah, Colorado and extending east to Wyoming. Winds of up to 50 mph are expected, and low humidity and dry vegetation increase the risk that any ignitions could spread rapidly.
Authorities advise the public to avoid activities that could generate sparks, such as yard work, target shooting, or campfires, and to follow local fire‑restriction orders while conditions persist.
