Red Flag Weather Warnings Issued for Nevada and Idaho

The National Weather Service in Reno, Nevada, issued a Red Flag Warning for the Sierra Front on June 20, citing thunderstorms, dry lightning and strong outflow winds of up to 50 mph. The warning covers Fire Weather Zones 420 and 421, including Carson City, Douglas, Storey, Washoe, Lyon, Lassen, Alpine, Mono, and Mineral counties, and warns that lightning could spark new fires that may spread rapidly.

Separately, the National Weather Service in Pocatello, Idaho, also issued a Red Flag Warning on June 20 for scattered thunderstorms across Fire Weather Zones 410, 413, 422, 427, 475 and 476. Expected wind gusts could reach 55 mph, with humidity below 15 % in the mountains. The warning alerts that lightning and gusty outflow winds could quickly ignite or enlarge existing fires in the Upper Snake River Valley, Caribou Range, Sawtooth Range, Goose Creek, East Salmon River Mountains and Lemhi‑Lost River areas.
