Red panda twins debut at zoos in South Korea and Japan
Twin red panda cubs have recently been introduced to the public at zoos in South Korea and Japan.
In South Korea, Seoul Grand Park announced that twin siblings Maru (male) and Maron (female) will be available for public viewing starting October 14. Born on June 19, they represent the first case of natural red panda breeding in South Korea. Their parents, Ravi from Canada and Lian from Japan, arrived at the park in 2023. Zoo officials have requested that visitors refrain from tapping on glass or shouting to avoid stressing the cubs.
In Japan, Nishiyama Zoo in Sabae, Fukui Prefecture, has implemented visitor restrictions due to high demand for its own pair of red panda twins. Following large crowds during the initial opening, the zoo began limiting daily viewing to the first 200 visitors to ensure the health of the cubs and the safety of the environment. The twins, born in June to parents Light and Kanoko, are currently being viewed in limited time slots.
